Stephan Funke FRPS

Born in 1929 in the middle part of Germany, I immigrated at the age of 21 to Finland and worked there in textile and garment related jobs until my retirement at 65. It was then that I moved to live in Thailand, in the outskirts of Bangkok.

Photography came in my life through my father who was a keen landscape photographer with his 9 by 12 cm plate camera. I started at the age of 11 and had first serious experiences with imaging during the Helsinki Summer Olympics in 1952 when friends engaged me as freelance photographer for the Deutsche Presse Agentur ( DPA).

I joined the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain in 1996 and became their Licenciate in 1998, Asociate in 1999 and finally made a

Fellowship in 2001.

As member of the Photographic Society of America I am now collecting stars in the EID division.

I am a member of EID study group 24 and represent Thailand at the Gallery of Nations.

To day I do my digital work with Canon EOS 5 D and Canon L lenses. But I am on my way back to shoot with black and white film in both: Midsize and Large Format. I use a flatbed scanner at its maximum resolution of 3200 dpi to scan the negatives into my computer.

My e-mail adress is: stephan_funke@hotmail.com
