Gho Lay Tin began photography as a hobby in her early 30s. She was first inspired by a lady photographer she met while on holiday in Turkey. This particular photographer exemplified the fact that female photographers could excel in taking vivid and compelling photographs. Thus, Lay Tin was inspired to take up this unique art form and hopefully, one day achieve the same status. Lay Tin tried her hand at photography when she first joined The Photographic Society of Singapore (PSS) in 1993. A few years later, her photographic works had caught the attention of The Photo-Art Association of Singapore (PAS) and The Singapore Colour Photographic Society (SCPS).

Since 2003, Lay Tin has been actively participating in international salons. In 2005, she secured the World Top Exhibitor in the Colour Print Section of The Photographic Society of America’s (PSA) Who’s Who list. She achieved the PSA 5 Star Exhibitor titles in the Color Projected Image Division in 2005, Color Print and Monochrome Print Divisions in 2008. Her outstanding work has also earned her the ARPS and AFIAP titles from The Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain and the International Federation of Photographic Art.

Over the years, Lay Tin has been travelling extensively, particularly in China, to pursue and capture her favourite subjects on film – elderly people and children. She feels that this requires a great deal of patience in order to accurately depict every facial line, smile, frown or cry to create a story within the photograph. To date, she has won more than thirty PSA gold medals while her enormous exhibition records have gained her the Proficiency level title from PSA in 2007.
