Shaikh Amin started his photography career in 1965
after completing a certificate course from he New York Institute
of Photography. He served in different positions in the Photo
Unit of the Arabian American Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) and retired
as Chief Photographer in 1985.
Amin, a PSA member for 36 years has received many medals, trophies, honors, and certificates for his photographic work during this period. These include 30 Gold Medals from different International Salons and Exhibitions and two awards from the United Nations, and one award from UNESCO. He also won 2nd place in Color Photography at the 1976 International Industrial Photography competition in New York. He also achieved Galaxy Award 2 in CS in 2006.
In recognition of excellence and achievement in his
field, Amin was honored FPSA and PPSA by the Photographic Society
of America (PSA) in 2000 and received a certificate of Excellence
from the Federation International de l' Art Photographique, Luxembourg
in Feb 1998. He was also awarded Associateship from India Int'l
Photographic Council (IIPC) in Aug. 1997.
PSA awarded Shaikh Amin a "Distinguished Service
Medal" at the 59th Int'l Conference of Photography in St.
Charles Illinois USA on Sept. 3 1997 for his services to the Society.
In 1996 and 2000, Shaikh Amin received the Speakers
award at the annual Int'l Conference of the PSA for the presentation
of his prize winning color slides, which highlighted his creative
techniques and the "Best of Pakistan" show. He is the
first Pakistani to receive these awards.
Amin has served as a judge for several Int'l Exhibitions
in Pakistan and USA. He is also a PSA Country Representative (CR)
in Pakistan serving from 1995 to the present. He also helps and
guides members in color slide work and has been a motivating force
in promoting photography in Pakistan.
Shaikh Amin, who holds three diplomas in photography
from USA and Switzerland, resides in Islamabad (Pakistan) with
his family but frequently travels to shoot pictures and exhibit
them.
