Norman S.K. LAU of Hong Kong is a senior figure in Asian photographic circles. His leadership and contribution have led to him being elected Hon. President of the Federation of Asian Photographic Art (FAPA), the largest photographic organization in Asia, with affiliations in 15 Asian Pacific regions. Since 1975 Mr. Lau has played an active role in FAPA events and assisted in the broadening of FAPA objectives. Apart from his regional contribution in the promotion of photographic art, Mr. Lau is also involved in the promotion of photography at domestic level. These include, since 1964, founding and serving a term as president, of a number of photographic clubs in Hong Kong.

Mr. Lau began his career in professional photography as chief photographer of the Star newspaper in 1966. He subsequently joined the Hong Kong Standard newspaper in 1971 as a photo-journalist and retired in 1974 to pursue a commercial career in high-tech photographic products including 3-dimension studio cameras and computer based electronic imaging equipment. At this time he also acted as travelling photographer for Cathay Pacfic Airways. During the last 20 years he received nominations and appointments to the positions of honorary advisor and regional representative of more than 10 photographic societies in Asia and the Pacific Rim.

Each year between 1987 to1989 Mr. Lau was awarded the top place in the P.S.A - Who's Who in the Photo-Journalism print section.

Mr. Lau uses his experience in photography- and photo-related travel to write articles for photographic magazines and hobby columns in local and Asian newspapers.

Mr. Lau held his first photographic exhibition in 1980 in Brunei at the invitation of the Sultan of Brunei at Darussalam, this was followed by exhibitions in Malaysia, China and Hong Kong. Mr. Lau received his fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society (FRPS) in 1989. During the same year he was awarded a certificate of excellence by the Federation of International Photographic Art (EFIAP) and in 1994 was awarded honorary membership and excellence of the Federation of Asian Photographic Art (FAPA) for which organisation he has also served as President.

From 1995 to 2005 he served as Hong Kong Country Representative for the Photographic Society of America. In 2000 he was awarded a Fellowship of the PSA

A legendary character, with his life dedicated to both journalistic and salon photography, Norman Lau has devoted himself to the promotion of photographic art in Hong Kong, Macau and beyond.
